SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — The Dominican Republic's Center for Export and Investment (ProDominicana) and the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and Production have formalized an alliance designed to enhance the competitiveness, productivity, and international standing of companies in the country's northern region.
The agreement seeks to strengthen the capabilities of productive sectors and open new opportunities in global markets, according to officials.
Biviana Riveiro Disla, ProDominicana's executive director, emphasized that the partnership marks a crucial step in solidifying Santiago's economic expansion. She noted that the province has become one of the most dynamic contributors to Dominican foreign trade.
“This agreement was forged with the aim of contributing to the economic strengthening of the Northern Region in the global market, thereby fostering its development, competitiveness, and profitability,” Riveiro stated. “Santiago plays a strategic role in the country’s exports, and today we reaffirm our commitment to continue supporting its growth.”
Recent data underscores Santiago's significance as a high-impact export hub. In 2024 alone, the province’s exports reached $1.509 billion, representing a 2.7% year-over-year increase, or an additional $40.1 million. This performance saw local businesses place 1,211 different products from 271 active exporters into international markets.
The favorable trend continued into 2025, with accumulated data through October showing exports totaling $1.350 billion. This marks a more robust 6.2% year-over-year growth, adding $79.3 million. The expansion is attributed to increasing export diversification, reaching 131 markets with 1,228 products from 266 exporting companies, solidifying Santiago's position as a high-performing productive center.
Luis Campos Jorge, president of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce and Production, lauded the alliance as a strategic opportunity to boost innovation and the international presence of businesses within the province.
“For the Chamber, this agreement is more than just a signature; it is a commitment to the sustainable growth of our productive sectors,” Jorge said. “Santiago is synonymous with hard work, talent, and export capacity, and alongside ProDominicana, we will continue to create the necessary conditions for our companies to conquer more markets and elevate their competitiveness.”
