Sabaneta de Yásica, Dominican Republic – Dominican Republic officials, led by Presidential Administrative Minister Andrés Bautista and local Mayor Roely Thomas, broke ground Monday on a new traffic distributor designed to improve safety and vehicle flow at a critical intersection here.

The project at the Sabaneta de Yásica intersection aims to create safer, more organized passage for vehicles traveling to and from the municipalities of Moca and Gaspar Hernández, the Veragua municipal district, and Puerto Plata province.

During a brief ceremony at the site, Bautista praised the project's anticipated impact, emphasizing its role in significantly reducing traffic accidents at the busy junction.

"In the name of President Luis Abinader, it is an honor to be at the start of this project," Bautista said. "Despite its 15 million peso cost, perhaps it doesn't fully capture the magnitude of what this intervention will mean for more organized traffic distribution in this area."

Mayor Thomas expressed gratitude to President Abinader and Minister Bautista for approving the long-requested infrastructure, which had been a significant demand from Sabaneta de Yásica residents.

Engineers Frendy Domínguez and Crisleidy Marte, who are overseeing the construction, explained that the new distributor will benefit both the Sabaneta de Yásica and Veragua municipal districts by ensuring a more secure and dynamic vehicular flow toward Moca, Gaspar Hernández, and Puerto Plata.

As part of the project, approximately 200 meters (about 656 feet) of sidewalks and curbs will be installed. The plans also include new signage and traffic lights to ensure optimal circulation throughout the improved intersection.
