Dominican Government Commits RD$87 Million to Azua Infrastructure

AZUA, Dominican Republic – The Dominican government on Friday committed more than 87 million Dominican pesos to infrastructure projects in the municipality of Las Charcas, Azua province, aiming to boost local development.

Andrés Bautista, the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, delivered two funding certifications to the Las Charcas Municipal Council. The allocation, made under instructions from President Luis Abinader, totals RD$87,798,318.

One certification, for RD$54,043,248, is designated for the construction of sidewalks and curbs within the municipality. The second, amounting to RD$33,755,070, will fund a new multi-purpose indoor sports court in the Hatillo section.

During a ceremony held at the mayor's office in Las Charcas, Bautista formally presented the funds to Mayor Brennis Fontanez Martínez. The minister emphasized that these contributions underscore President Abinader's ongoing commitment to the nation's municipalities.

Mayor Fontanez Martínez expressed gratitude for the continuous support from President Abinader, channeled through the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency. He highlighted the significant positive impact these new projects are expected to have on the quality of life for local residents.

Fontanez also enumerated several past projects successfully completed with the president's backing. These include the construction of sidewalks, curbs, and 13 kilometers of asphalt paving in Pueblo Nuevo; the establishment of a Navy barracks at Playa Caracoles; an aqueduct in Cañada Cimarrona; and a National Police barracks in Las Charcas, among other initiatives.

Several provincial and municipal officials attended the event, including Provincial Governor María Minerva Navarro, Senator Lía Díaz, Estebanía Mayor Manuela Ortiz, and Pueblo Viejo Mayor Víctor Figuereo. Representatives from the Council of Councilors and local civil society also participated.
