SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – The Center for Export and Investment of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana) recently convened its 6th National Meeting of Women in Export, a two-day event aimed at strengthening the capabilities of women in the nation's export sector.
Held in Santo Domingo, the meeting featured strategic training and discussions centered on specialized communication, innovation, and sustainability within the Dominican export ecosystem.
Biviana Riveiro Disla, ProDominicana's executive director, underscored the agency's commitment to creating learning environments. She said these spaces empower women in the export sector and promote their active participation in the country's economic development.
The first day commenced with a keynote address by Patricia de Moya, president and editor-in-chief of Mercado Media Network. Her presentation, titled “The Role of Specialized Communication in a Country's Reputation: The Value of Exporting Credibility,” highlighted the importance of effective national branding.
A subsequent panel, “Innovation and Sustainability in Export Industries,” brought together Janett Liriano, Laura Peña Izquierdo, Elizabeth Rojas, and Mildred Veras. They shared insights on technological transformation, responsible business models, and sustainable practices. Moderated by Yomayra Martinó, the discussion analyzed global trends influencing export competitiveness and recognized women's crucial role as agents of innovation.
"Sumando Exportadoras" Awards
On the second day, ProDominicana announced the recipients of its “Sumando Exportadoras 2025” program, recognizing three standout initiatives. Subay, represented by Lolimer Rijo Valdez, secured first place. Shajala International, led by Michelle Sahdala, earned the second-place honor, while Agenda Continental, under Sofía Rodríguez, placed third.
These companies were distinguished for their innovative capacity, export potential, and dedication to elevating Dominican products in international markets. Riveiro explained that the program aims to bolster women's engagement in global trade, providing essential advisory services and capacity building to further energize the national economy.
Among the day's highly anticipated sessions was “Boost Your Sales with Artificial Intelligence,” presented by Carolina Camacho. She provided practical tools for optimizing commercial processes and expanding export reach using emerging technologies.
Nora Lee Brugal Ortiz, VP of BCE and SME Sales at Banco BHD, then offered a session on “Maximizing Your Internationalization Through Foreign Trade Financial Solutions.” Her talk explored various financing options and strategies to support business expansion into new markets.
Concluding the series of talks, Vespacini Rodríguez, Operations Director at UCS Caribbean Supply, delivered “How to Sell Your Products on Amazon.” This practical guide covered global platform access, logistics, product positioning, and e-commerce opportunities for Dominican businesses.
